Sorry if I cant understand the other comments, but this flower is called Acacia greggii. According the Wikipedia: "The name derives from ακις (akis) which is Greek for a sharp point, due to the thorns in the former type-species Acacia nilotica ("Nile Acacia") from Egypt."
It looks like a species of Golden Wattle (Acacia Pycnantha) from Australia. We have them everywhere here and it's the national floral emblem of Australia. Sydney - City and Suburbs

I love the words about the light at the beginning of your blog. Everytime I used to visit Greece I was so taken with the amazing light - like nowhere else in the world.
Athens, the capital of Greece, with more than 3.000.000 people.... It's not just ancient ruins and pollution. Its' also the suburbs, everyday people, gardens, bitter orange trees.

i don´t know it´s name either, i don´t think it´s mimosa. we have a lot of them here in Brazil too, and they´re very gorgeous at this moment.
