shhhhh...

The entrance of Metro Station Monastiraki,
late Saturday evening.
You can see a magazine shop inside and
a dog sleeping outside!

Saturday morning coffee
in Cerameikos square.

umbrellas

It was raining heavily today.
Here you can see a lot of umbrella-sellers
at the exit of Synagma metro station.

These are very cheap umbrellas,
of the worst quality
(they get destroyed on the spot while wind blows)
but they have very live and happy colors!

through flowers

Walking through this pavement every morning,
the way from the parking to the metro station,
is one of the best moments of my day.

Next station: Monastiraki

Athens metropolitan has 3 Lines:
2 underground and 1 on-the-ground.
What you see is the external (green) line,
"the train" line as it is called here,
numbered "1" because it is the oldest of three.
You can find more information here.
Anyway, the cost is about 1euro for 90 minutes,
and you can also have a day-ticket
(for metro and all bus lines also)
just for 3euro.
This station is called "Monastiraki" (=little Monastirion).
It is one of the 2-3 most crowded and tourist stations,
because it is located in the heart of the city.
I took the photos on a very hot day, late noon,
that is why there are not many people around
-as there usually are.

30.3.09

sun after raining

Metro station Agios (saint) Antonios.
The sign shows the "exit".

16.3.09

do not disturb

Sleeping peacefully in the heart of the city: Syntagma Square!

10.3.09

spring in town

Many kinds of buildings, in Korai square.
On the right, a big new glass-covered building, besides an old yellow house with tiled roof, nicely restored.
On the left, a part of the archaeological museum, and a glass pyramid that covers the metro station Panepistimio.
On the back, Lycabettus hill, with St.George church on top.

early afternoon

Big blocks of flats (“laborers’s homes”) just outside the entrance of metro station Aghios Antonios, in Peristeri.
Winter. Early afternoon. Freezing cold.

26.2.09

february flowers

A balcony with beautiful flowers, despite the deep winter cold, in a house near metro station Aghios Antonios, in Peristeri.
Athens, the capital of Greece, with more than 3.000.000 people....
It's not just ancient ruins and pollution.
Its' also the suburbs, everyday people, gardens, bitter orange trees.
